"Thank you so
much for doing such a beautiful job on the flowers. They looked amazing! Steve

excellent job! Thanks for your hard work, you helped make the day perfect."

When you visit Belmont Flowers, you gain
new friends, flower ideas & a fresh bouquet to prove it
Florist, Vildana
Glisic, is an amazing woman whose life story is often told in words, colour, and
flowers. Without even trying, she draws you in with her ability to adopt
brides as if they were her own daughters. She shares her story as you share
yours, simultaneously arranging flowers as you talk, putting together
various design options and colour palettes to fit the dream wedding you just
finished describing.
At Belmont
Flowers, no wedding is considered to be a 'small wedding'. It's not uncommon
for Vildana to hug and share tears with a bride on her wedding day because as far as she is concerned, "For every bride, her wedding day is the only day that
matters... And
that’s the way I treat every one of my brides' weddings."
The Ring sat down with Vildana to find out how it
was that one person could make such a splash in our K-W wedding community...
Personally speaking...
Many
people don't know where they want their future to take them until well after high
school. For Vildana, a lifetime with flowers has been a dream since childhood.
Growing up in Bosnia/Yugoslavia, Vildana went to University to become a
journalist. This was due in large part...

A DJ with experience and an inspiration
for music, is worth his weight in gold
Merv Keyes,
owner of Magic Tunes Entertainment, has a name that has well-earned its respect in the community. Merv has
DJ'd in just about every
setting, from the gigantic ATS Christmas party at Bingemans to the smaller
backyard wedding. After twenty years in the business, Merv can 'E.Q. a sound
system' in a second, tell you what the speed of sound is and explain how it
'delays' in speakers that are 40 feet apart. Just as easily he can offer
tips that could have you making $400 in forty-five minutes at your Stag & Doe. The experience that Merv brings to
your wedding planning table can't be taught, but it's worth its weight in
gold on your wedding day. Let us explain...
Personally
speaking...
Merv Keyes'
undoubtedly excellent reputation is due in part to the close-knit
relationships he seems to so easily make with leaders and experts in the
event industry. His popularity with brides, however, is most likely due to
his involvement in charity and media events, corporate
functions of all sizes, and - most importantly to you - weddings. He
has an intense respect for the level of responsibility that music has on a
wedding...

All that sparkles...
Many winter
brides dream of white snowy backdrops, Snow White capes with white faux
fur and as much sparkle as possible in each element of the wedding.
Because we didn’t know anyone who does more custom jewellery work with
local brides than Karen of Sterling Accents, we turned to her for the
inside scoop. Karen put together several pieces that show off the
season’s colours and trends.
|
The
Contrast
of
Winter
"Winter colours are all about contrast... Intense vivid
colour set against strong black, stark white or the sparkle of silver,"
says Karen. "This creates a sense of style and sophistication."
 |
|

Ruby Kisses
According to
Karen, winter sparkles are most often accented with cool winter colours,
such as blue, purple and red. Ruby Kisses is made of freshwater pearls
and Swarovski crystals. |
|
Blue Ice
Carrying on
with the cool colours theme, this beautiful piece sparkles in the
showroom and on your neck. It is made of Swarovski crystals and sterling
silver for a simple but stunning look.

|
Karen says
that some materials are good choices for any season such as white
pearls, sterling silver, clear and Aurora Borealis (A/B) crystals. A/B
crystals are iridescent crystals cut specifically at angles so that they
pick up whatever colour and light is near them, and are a popular
request. Karen told us that it’s when you add 'just the right amount of
colour' such as electric blue or stunning ruby red or purple to your
wedding jewellery, that you have the perfect winter jewels.
Jackie-O
This is the
hottest selling item at Sterling Accents. Made of Swarovski pearls and
sterling silver and rhinestones for extra sparkle, this three piece set
comes with necklace, bracelet and earrings. It has a tiara to match for
the completely picture of beauty.

All pieces
scene here are samples and can be altered in colour, stone and style for
each winter bride. To find out more or to see pieces in person, contact
Karen Young of
Sterling Accents at 519-578-0710

Tips to help ensure your wedding day runs smoothly
Timing is everything when it comes to a smooth-running - a.k.a.
stress-free - wedding day. Wedding officiant, Christina Brighton
of Celebrate Life, says that when she
began doing weddings, she
was amazed by how many brides were late for their own ceremony,
and even more amazed at the snowball effect this had on the rest
of their wedding day. "Some brides consider it to be
good luck
to be 15 minutes late, but
really, this is just a superstition."
After all, there is
nothing lucky about missing your own
ceremony. If you are using an independent officiant, they may
have another wedding to perform that day – and they won’t be
late for it. Also, if you are hosting a catered cocktail hour
scheduled for directly after the ceremony, running late could
also mean lukewarm munchies. Yuk! Here are some ways to help
you pull of the perfect wedding day.
Timing is everything
Time out each portion of each day and make
sure your schedule is workable. Allow time for transportation
and photography. If you are having a receiving line, allot
considerable time to it unless the weather is cold or raining.
Schedule your wedding day
Leah Snyder of L Photography admits that
often wedding day schedules are unrealistic, if not just
impossible. There’s really never enough time to do everything
you want to. Scheduling as much as possible can help the day run
more smoothly. Pour a couple glasses of wine and sit down with
your groom-to-be to walk yourselves through the full wedding
weekend in your mind and on paper. Here are a few things allot
time to...
Spa time:
leave lots of time for this if you have more than one person
getting hair and/or make-up done at the same location
Travel time:
leave time for weather, accidents, flat tires...
'Just in case' time
Photo time:
photo shoot length at church, alternative locations, and
reception (ask your photographer how long photos will take)
Receiving line time
Cocktail hour time
Initial mingling time:
before the reception swings into gear
Speech time:
try to get speech timings several days before the wedding but
count on some going over or under in length
Free time:
you have to allot some time to get away from the crowd with your
groom and take a breather here and there. It’ll be a relief from
the fast forward speed of the day, and most often, it’ll be
romantic because you just tied the knot!!
With
a little planning, you’ll have more fun on your wedding day
while looking to your guests as if you’ve hosted a thousand
grand affairs before it...

Post subject: Christmas Spirit
"Hello
all, As some of you know I work with homeless youth aged 16 to 24 years
old, these youth have been abused, neglected and abandoned in many ways
and most do not really have any kind of family supports. At the moment
we have 20 residents and out of those 20, 17 will be spending Christmas
inside the shelter as they have no place to go and celebrate. Argus
Residence Staff, along with myself are now in the process of gathering
donations that are able to be used as Christmas gifts to give to the
resents so that they too can feel the Christmas spirit. If any of you
have anything that you are willing to donate I will be more than happy
to pick it up from you. Tax receipts can also be given for monitory
donations over $10.00 I know that during the Christmas season we are all
so focused on our own families, but just take time to think of those who
have nothing and how happy a simple gesture can make..."

30 Days and

Post subject: Might have
to have an illegal wedding!
"Its 16 days until the wedding (AHHHHHHHHH!) and I am pretty much
done all the planning. RSVPs are all in order, food music, dress...
check, check, check. Everything is sorted. Except the most important
thing: We have no marriage licence as we are waiting on the
government. For those of you who don't know (and I didn't before
this), if you or your FH have been divorced outside Canada, you have
to get it validated by the Gov. Gen.'s office to get a marriage
licence. I've had to use a lawyer in Toronto as the one's in the KW
region had no idea what I meant when I ask for a Legal Opinion
Letter for a Foreign Divorce Kit (you get them where you get a
marriage licence). So I went to the most amazing lawyer in T.O. and
I'm going TODAY to pick up the completed forms. I now have to send
them express post to Thunder Bay and pray they are back in time to
get a marriage licence. If not, I cannot be legally married on my
wedding day! We couldn't do this sooner, as we were waiting on
British lawyers to finish their part. I got those forms in the mail
this week. The minister, bless him, said he'd perform a blessing and
not tell the guests we weren't married and let us come into the
chapel when we got the forms and sign the real deal with him for
free. But its not the same. I really hope it goes through alright as
I'm on pins and needles and alternate between feeling sick with
dread and overjoyed with excitement. AND, as I haven't had enough
stress, FH has been told his operation is being bumped from December
to TOMORROW...."
